Fiona Apple made her debut at age 19 with 1996’s Tidal, which is certified triple Platinum. Rolling Stone named her Artist of the Year in 1997 and in 1998 she won a GRAMMY for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance for one of the album’s singles, “Criminal.” When the Pawn…followed in 1999, and was hailed by Entertainment Weekly as “the work of an original.” Extraordinary Machine debuted in the Top 10 of The Billboard 200 and appeared on numerous critics’ best-of-2005 lists.
On June 19, Clean Slate/Epic Records will release Fiona Apple’s first album in seven years. Like Apple’s 1999 record, When the Pawn…, the new album’s title is a poem:
The Idler Wheel is wiser
than the Driver of the Screw
and Whipping Cords will serve you more
than Ropes will ever do.
“Every Single Night,” the collection’s first single, will be available beginning Tuesday, April 24, on the iTunes Store, where fans will also be able to pre-order the album. The cover for THE IDLER WHEEL… will feature an illustration by Apple.
